How to Load a Dumpster the Right Way

Simple, practical steps for loading a roll-off safely and efficiently, from the first item to the fill line.

Plan the order

Decide what goes first before you start. Heavy and flat items go along the floor, bulky items go next and light items go on top.

Break down furniture and flatten boxes.

Keep a small area for items that cannot go in.

Use the space

Fill from the front to the back and from the sides to the center. Stack neatly instead of tossing.

Put long items along the walls.

Fill gaps with smaller pieces.

Spread the weight

Heavy loads should be spread across the floor, not piled in one corner. Uneven weight is hard on the truck and unsafe to lift.

Use a low-side container for dense material.

Never go above the fill line.

Stay safe

Wear gloves, boots and eye protection. Use a door or a ladder instead of climbing over the sides.

Keep children and pets away.

Take breaks and ask for help with heavy items.

Keep it clean

Do not mix prohibited items with the load. Keep cardboard dry and trash bagged.

Cover the container in rain.

If something unusual turns up, ask us first.

Finish well
